The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR car seat regularly receives the highest ratings in consumer tests for seats with car safety belt installation in the age category of 3½ to 12 years. In the spring of 2010, a successor seat is introduced featuring a patented revolutionary technology developed by manufacturer Dorel, which provides children within this age group with even better protection. It’s called Maxi-Cosi Rodi AirProtect®.

Pioneering technology

AirProtect^® is the most innovative safety technology that has ever been used in a child car seat. The system is designed to protect the most important part of the child’s body during a collision: the head. The technology was developed by Dorel, manufacturer of Maxi-Cosi car seats, together with the renowned Crash Safety Center at Kettering University in Michigan, one of the leading technical universities in the United States.

Significant increase in side impact collisions

Thanks to the compulsory use of car child restraints, the number of young children injured in accidents has decreased significantly. However, ten children die and around 1,150 are still injured in traffic in Europe every week.* Over the past twenty years, the number of side impact collisions in traffic has risen enormously. In 2009, nearly 25 percent of all collisions were sideways. Today, the majority of fatalities among children take place during side impact collisions, primarily as a result of head injuries. That is why it is so important to protect the child’s head on both sides while in the car.

Up to twenty per cent fewer head injuries

AirProtect^® consists of specially developed shock-absorbent foam inside a perforated air cushion. By releasing the air at the right moment in a controlled fashion, AirProtect^®compresses and reduces the impact of the forces exerted during a collision where the child is most vulnerable: around the head. AirProtect lengthens the time during which the child’s movement decelerates during an impact. By lengthening the deceleration time, the special technology ensures a slower and softer impact. AirProtect results in up to 20 per cent less risk of head injury.

AirProtect^® in the Maxi-Cosi Rodi

The AirProtect® system is invisibly integrated into the headrest of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi car seat and feels comfortable and soft to the touch. The unique reclining position, wide seat, height adjustment options and now the extra AirProtect head protection of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi allows parents to travel without a worry and enjoy life to the fullest together with their child.
